Details [WOL]

Wyra's personality shifts through the events of her life.As a child, she was cheerful and friendly. She was very smart, but didn't take things seriously and was quite playful. She cared for her family, made friends with villagers and cousins, and her mother called her her "little star" because of how much light she brought to their home. After the calamity, Wyra was left in shock and withdrew greatly. She became much more introverted and dropped her playfulness entirely because she had strong survivor's guilt and felt that she should have/could have done more to help save anyone who had been lost, if only she was older, or even if she had had combat training of any kind. She begins traveling at that point, and traveling and seeing new people and places eases her spirits; still, she remains cordial and polite but doesn't make close friends. She feels like she MUST help and save people, but does not wish to use violence to do so. Unfortunately, she finds that it is necessary in the world they live in, but she takes no joy in it.After meeting new friends (in her WOL story, becoming a Scion), she begins to open up again as she spends more time with individual people. In WOL canon, she finds she has a gift and blessing that makes her one of the few people who can fight primals, so violence is her fate and something she must use when she cannot reason. Reason will always be her first choice, but as time progresses she grows hardened and doesn't break down after taking lives anymore if she feels it is necessary to protect those she cares about and innocents harmed by evil. She becomes a different person in combat when it comes to it, and has to remind herself to be merciful so she won't regret it later. She does hold grudges and suspicion against those who have wronged her, and can even be resentful internally against those who are rude or otherwise aggravating. Outwardly, though, she maintains an eternally friendly face and will work with whomever she must for the greater good. She will sacrifice herself ten times over before letting harm come of someone she cares about. With friends, her true personality shines through, and it is much like her childhood self: friendly, sweet, playful, though perhaps a bit more thoughtful and introverted now.She is smart, observant, and loves studying every kind of magic available, but she may come off as ditzy or eccentric because she gets so wrapped up in her own thoughts after making initial observations. She leans into that a bit so that she can be underestimated to her advantage. She hates the WOL spotlight cast on her, but tries to put on a confident and hopeful appearance to serve as a beacon of hope to those relying on her. When it comes to romance, she adores the concept and loves to ship her friends and support their endeavors of the heart; her mother had told her stories of the Twelve and the ones of Menphina helping to bring lovers together were her favorite. She, though, is oblivious, though it is uncertain to her friends if it is purposeful or actual, since it goes against her otherwise observant nature. When asked about love, she says she is too busy to settle down with anyone, so she is never in a public relationship. In actuality, she fears the idea of a tragic love story -- whether it is because she expects to someday die in the line of duty, or because her enemies go after her loved one to get to her. She is demisexual/romantic, though, and developed slight crushes on a few friends (namely, G'raha and Y'shtola, and she harbored Azem's own romantic/BFF feelings towards Themis).Being the WOL, she is an object of attraction for many, but she feels as though romance without true love is pointless, and they don't know the real her -- and so she pays them no heed in the slightest, leading to the oblivious appearance. If someone states their interest to her directly, she lets them down easy and tries to make them see that it really isn't possible. Still, she is very easily flustered if someone comes on too strongly, and more than a few people have turned her face red with their flirtatious teasing -- Haurchefant was perhaps the worst before they became closer friends, but Themis also troubled her greatly since she already harbored Azem's fondness for him while simultaneously holding her disgust and pity toward Elidibus.

Relationships
Scions

  • Alphinaud: Views as a little brother. Originally thought he was haughty and naiive, but followed along with what he asked since she believed that it aligned with the greater good. She recognizes his new humility after going to Ishgard and they became much closer then.

  • Alisaie: One of her best and closest friends, and also like a little sister. Wyra admires that she always speaks her mind and trusts that if Wyra ever goes too far with anything, Alisaie will put her in her place verbally.

  • Y'shtola: A sort of mentor and early Scion friend who Wyra is still intimidated by. Wyra admires her poise and confidence, as well as her strength. After Wyra's eye is injured and she switches from archery to magic, Wyra gravitates to Y'shtola as a teacher in magic. Wyra was never granted the opportunity to study and learn the way Y'shtola did from a young age, so Wyra hopes to absorb some of her knowledge. Y'shtola teases Wyra for this, suggesting she is like a kitten, and even flirts with her teasingly to make Wyra flustered. The two women ultimately respect each other greatly and consider one another friends.

  • Urianger: Initially, Wyra misconstrues his pattern of speech and behavior as intended to place himself as higher-class than others, and Wyra attempts to avoid him. Over time and getting to know him, she realizes this isn't the case and comes to view him as awkward and charming. Wyra takes time to trust him after the events of Heavansward, and then was hurt when he didn't tell her the truth in Shadowbringers, but believes he felt it was necessary and strives to prove to him that she is trustworthy.

  • Thancred: Wyra is bewildered by his apparent womanizing attitude at first, then recognizes it is largely an act for the sake of spying. She doesn't trust him much, still, and is only moderately surprised when it is revealed he had been puppeted by Lahabrea. She is sympathetic after that point and proud of how he grows in Shadowbringers. They bond much more closely after he supports her when her body is posessed by Zenos.

  • Yda/Lyse: Papalymo and Yda are the first scions Wyra meets, and she is fast friends with Yda. They pair well in combat and are of similar ages. Wyra is more introverted and observant, but still appreciates Yda's lightheartedness.

  • Papalymo: Wyra respects Papalymo and mildly fears him for his magical strength. She is intimidated by his personality and doesn't have much opportunity to interact at first. Later on, once she switches to being a mage herself, she learns thaumaturgy from him. When he sacrifices himself, she tries to stop him and feels it is a personal failure that she couldn't do it herself.

  • Minfilia: Wyra is cordial with Minifilia and fascinated to meet another with the echo. She does feel a slight distance from her, though; being the leader of the scions, Wyra is intimidated by her at first, and feels as though Minfilia and the other scions are only interested in her for her ability. Just as they begin to grow slightly closer, Minfilia vanishes. Wyra respects her strongly and mildly pities her for her role as the oracle of light.

  • G'raha: Upon meeting in the Crystal Tower raid series, Wyra initially views him as an immature brat, akin to a couple of the W-tribe cousins she met. She is impressed when he does come to show how knowledgeable he is, and then finally respects him when he uses his ability to control the tower. She is saddened when he seals himself away, but forgets him in time. Upon traveling to the First, she asks of him but is mildly disappointed and yet unsurprised after the Exarch says he wasn't there. She deeply mistrusts the Exarch but grows to appreciate him and understand his motivations. She is upset when he attempts to sacrifice himself to save her and the world, and stunned to learn it is G'raha. They grow much closer after, and G'raha's obvious hero worship and crush on Wyra flatters and almost overwhelms her. She does develop her own crush on him as they learn more of each other in Endwalker and she feels he cares for her as more than a hero.

  • Estinien: She did not care for his hatred of dragons at first, and while sympathetic to his history, she viewed him as needlessly quick to jump to violence. She is bothered by his and Ysayle's constant bickering but deeply respects him when his attitude changes. After Heavensward, she views him as one of the better combat partners. Being an introvert herself, she can respect his need for alone or quiet time, and still trade quips when needed.

Important NPCS

  • Unukalhai: Like a little brother she adopted immediately upon learning his story. She sees much of herself in him and his history, having been too young and inexperienced to save anyone in the Calamity, and tells him more than she tells most others about her internal struggles. He does trigger confusion for her relating to Elidibus, initially -- her own views of the Ascians as diabolical monsters is countered by the fact he raised Unukalhai after the fall of the Thirteenth. Wyra does return and speak with him after the events of Endwalker to tell Unu about how Elidibus helped her, and then shares her internal struggle upon meeting Themis. The positive stories of his mentor and guardian help Unu to cope with his loss.

  • Aymeric: Wyra is honored to meet him, as she was the other leaders of Eorzea, and pleased when he is willing to work with them. She doesn't have much in the way of personal feelings towards him until they begin to speak more in Heavenward. She is intimidated by people much taller than her, but she appreciates his gentle demeanor and enjoys his company. She does not forget the man's social status, though, and takes care not to be seen around him too casually for fear of causing him political stress. Thancred's teasing as well as rumors in the city aside, Wyra does not consider a romantic relationship possible between them and instead views him as a good friend.

  • Haurchefant: A great ally and friend. Wyra felt as though Haurchefant is one of the first people she met in her travels who was interested in her as a person rather than just because she was the Warrior of Light. His flirtatious demeanor unnerved her until she realized he is that way with everyone; as they become closer, particularly when he takes them in after ARR, his flirting reduces and she comes to treasure him as a true friend. When he sacrifices himself to save her, she is beside herself with grief and feels the first flame of anger and wish for revenge upon those who harmed him, which drives her forward until she sees Estinien's struggle with revenge and hatred.

  • Emet-selch: She despises him initially and views him as manipulative and unhinged. She is unnerved by his different approach to doing ascian meddlings, but does appreciate the knowledge he shares even if she mistrusts it. In the end she feels pity for him and his purpose, but has no regrets in cutting him down. During Endwalker, she is immediately happy to see him in a way that confuses her (Azem's emotions, as Emet had been a very close friend). She grows to know him in Elpis and feels more upset for how things turned out, because he does seem to be a good person at heart -- he was just driven to extremes to save those he loved. She wishes life could have been easier and not turned them into enemies, and wishes the best for him in the next life.

  • Hythlodaeus: She is immediately curious who he is in the Tempest, and feels drawn to him as someone to trust. Without his meddling, she wouldn't have had the convocation crystals that helped her to remind Elidibus of who he was and send her back to Elpis in EW. She still wonders how much was Hyth and how much was Emet, though having met Hyth in the past, she got along with him better than many she had known longer. His quiet but fun energy is the sort she enjoys most, and his supportive nature gave her comfort despite not knowing anyone in Elpis.

  • Ysayle: Wyra did not care for her choice of violence, but strongly resonated with her hope for ending peace and came to realize they both fought and had to use violence when they felt it was their last resort -- Ysayle just found her limit sooner. Wyra didn't condone the summoning she did, but was fascinated by the magic and empathetic to her cause of feeling that she was someone once.

  • Moenbryda: Intimidating but lively and great potential for friendship. Moenbryda views Wyra as another lil weird introverted friend like she did Urianger, but they didn't have a chance to grow close before she died. Wyra regrets it and admires her for her dedication to their cause that led her to sacrifice herself.

  • Zenos: Initially, someone Wyra feared immensely. Loathing violence herself, he was her antithesis, pursuing violence for fun. Nearly dying at his hands gave her a reality check and drove her to grow stronger. His return scared her because of her own superstitions and then fueled her hatred of Elidibus, before Zenos showed himself to be in control of his own body again. After he begins stalking her as a rival and calling her a friend, she is immensely uncomfortable by it, and it grows into pure hatred after In from the Cold when he possesses her body. In the end, she feels more pity for him than hatred, but fully believes he will never stop destroying the world in her pursuit until she faces him. She does not relish in his death, but is relieved.

  • Meteion: Wyra adores her immediately and is glad to talk to her while the ancients discussed their business. She fears for her once the first message starts coming in, then is angry at Hermes for creating her as he did when Meteion goes dark. She desperately wants to bring light back to the poor girl when she becomes the Endsinger and doesn't hold how she was created against her normally sweet personality. She hopes that the little blue bird is out somewhere, observing the beauty still left in the world.

  • Themis: Wyra had mixed emotions towards him. She pitied but loathed Elidibus for all the evil he did, with pity winning in the end as he died. Her own emotions against her almost formless enemy outweighed any recognition Azem's soul might recall. The reverse happens when she sees Themis as Azem would have remembered him, and she is overwhelmed by recognition similar to that she held when seeing Emet and Hyth. Differently, though, Azem had been in love with the Elidibus of Azem's time. Themis's wildly different disposition compared to the modern Elidibus's coupled with her ancient's feelings towards him made Wyra feel fondness towards him that she only tried to fight for a short time before he won her over. His obvious love of adventuring, odd flirtatious teasing without going too far, and kindness towards those they met endeared him to her, and she had to fight her own mild crush and be tormented by it since she knew how their relationship would end. She did have mild confusion in how she should feel, since she could tell that Themis and Azem had been so close -- did he just view her as a familiar? Why treat her as such if so? Was she stepping on the toes of her soul's past self by growing closer to him? Was she betraying her own ideals, knowing what he would become? Partly through Pandaemonium, he admits that he knows she isn't a familiar, but doesn't pry further, which she is relieved by. Ultimately, after the fight with Athena, Themis admits to Wyra that he was made up of both his memories from Elpis and the soul of the deceased Elidibus Wyra had fought, and that he was thankful for the path that had led them together, even if his life had to end as such, because the star does persist. He mused that his attraction to her made sense, with her being an incarnation of Azem, but that she was different in ways that made her special and unique, and he kisses her before dissipating into aether again. This settles a little of Wyra's anxiety of herself and living up to Azem's title, but leaves her with still-muddied emotions.

  • Venat: Wyra adored Venat. Azem's memories of her were immensely positive, and so Wyra felt that draw from the start, but she misattributed it to tempering and mistrusted her when she first appeared in Old Sharlayan on the boat. Upon getting to know her in Elpis, Wyra looked up to her immensely for her love of her people, openness to believing Wyra, intelligence, and strength. Her faith in Hydaelyn was immensely strengthened and all distrust disappeared. Upon meeting her in her primal form, Wyra felt great sympathy for Venat for her trials and overwhelmed with awe. She did feel a sense of guilt that she was only Hydaelyn's chosen because she had been the one to travel back in time and meet her as Venat, but hopes that she can "earn" the distinction as well as Azem's stone through her actions going forward.

  • Zero: Wyra didn't think twice about her when she was Zenos's avatar, but upon considering her face-to-face on the Thirteenth, Wyra feels strange familiarity from her but still doesn't trust her. Quickly, though, she comes to understand Zero's outlook and transactionary nature. She is relieved to not have to kill as many voidsent and be able to communicate with them under Zero's guidance. Slowly Wyra comes to care for her, hoping that they can save the Thirteenth with Zero's help. Wyra is immensely curious about Zero's past, but senses that she shouldn't pry any more than Zero is willing to open up. Ultimately Wyra gives her the same space as she does Estinien, though she hopes to allow Zero to come to her if she needs anything in the Source. She is humbled by Thancred's directions to Zero to look to Wyra as an example, and hopes that they can become better friends in a way that does not involve being chased by Zenos. As part of their bonding, Wyra asks Zero to teach her how to use a scythe for melee combat when needed, so they spend a lot of time post-EW training. Wyra is sad to see her go back to the 13th in the end.

  • Wuk Lamat: Wyra is a bit overwhelmed by her, as Wyra is a quiet introvert and Wuk Lamat is extremely energetic in comparison and doesn't quiet for long. Wyra views her as naiive but in a position of power that requires much guidance, and while she feels uncomfortable being the one looked to for it, Wyra is glad to be able to aid her to help her nation in a way that won't harm others. Calls her Lamaty'i after it is requested, and views her as a bit of a younger sibling by the end of DT.

  • Koana: Initially, Wyra was not fond of him for his lack of insight into his own people's traditions, but as she came to know him she appreciated where he was coming from and they grew closer after Wuk Lamat's kidnapping. When Koana and Wuk Lamat were named Dawnservants, both he and Lamaty'i requested she stay there, and there were romantic undertones of Koana's request. Wyra does have a mild crush on him, which Wuk Lamat is oblivious to but teases them both about because they seem compatible. There has not been time to develop the relationship further.

Family

  • Ara Dakwhil: Mother. Wyra loved her and admired her dedication to healing people. Ara raised Wyra with stories of the Moon Keepers and Wyra loved her storytelling.

  • W'haro Tia: Father. Wyra was closest to him and adored him, inheriting much of his personality and adventuring nature. She learned to use a bow from hunting trips with him, and keeps his bow as her most treasured possession. When it is lost from the end of ARR until Stormblood, she is heartbroken and feels she has fully lost him and will forget him.

  • W'zhet Tia: Older brother. Initially estranged, but then on positive terms once she becomes WOL and seeks him out in their father's tribe.
